MAX Transit Continues Free Rides to the Polls Initiative for Third Consecutive Year

Election Day offer includes complimentary fares on Fixed Route, Birmingham Xpress and Paratransit, plus two eligible MAX On-Demand rides with VOTE26

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — For the third consecutive year, the Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA), operating as MAX Transit, will provide complimentary rides on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to help residents access the polls and connect with their communities on Election Day.

MAX Fixed Route, Birmingham Xpress bus rapid transit (BRT) and Paratransit will provide complimentary rides throughout their regular service day. MAX On-Demand riders can receive two complimentary rides per rider/account by entering promo code VOTE26 in the BJCTA MAX Connect app before booking.

The nonpartisan initiative supports access to voting by removing the cost of transit fares for the day. No voter-registration card or proof of voting is required to receive complimentary rides. Standard Paratransit eligibility requirements remain in effect.

“Each year, this initiative gives us another opportunity to help residents include MAX in their Election Day plans,” said Amanda Hare, Director of Marketing & Communications at MAX Transit. “We encourage riders to confirm their polling location, review their transportation options and plan their return trip in advance so they can make the most of the complimentary rides available.”

Regular service schedules, routes and boundaries will apply. No special Election Day routes or extended service hours are planned. Riders should confirm their assigned polling place, review available transit connections and plan both their outbound and return trips, including the last departure for their chosen service.

BJCTA has published an Election Day resource page at maxtransit.org featuring polling-location maps, trip-planning links and answers to frequently asked questions. The maps are planning references; riders should confirm their assigned polling place through official election resources and verify current routes, schedules and service alerts before traveling.

Eligible Paratransit riders must reserve both directions through the regular reservation process by 5 p.m. Monday, November 2. Riders using MAX On-Demand should confirm that VOTE26 is applied before completing their booking and keep one of the two complimentary rides available for their return trip. Regular On-Demand service-area rules and operating hours remain in effect.
