About TCAB

Our Transit Citizens Advisory Board (TCAB) represents the residents of South Central Jefferson County. Formed in 2013, it includes up to 16 volunteers —riders, former transit employees and community advocates— who advise on transit system planning, operations and programs. TCAB provides an essential community perspective on public transit in the Birmingham-Jefferson County area by making recommendations to BJCTA.

Current Projects

Let's Talk

Let’s Talk makes sure rider voices are heard. Once a month, TCAB members spend a few hours at Central Station listening to rider concerns and sharing helpful information. This program helps riders address problems with BJCTA operations. From Let’s Talk, we created Fix It, where riders share their biggest concerns with the system and we report them to MAX to get them fixed.

Major Initiatives

Voter Registration TCAB has been registering voters for several years and has registered hundreds of riders. These sign-ups happen at Central Station in downtown Birmingham.

State Funding Campaign TCAB started a statewide petition to get state funding for public transportation in Alabama. Alabama is one of only five states that provides no state funding for public transportation. In 2018, the Alabama state legislature created the Public Transportation Trust Fund, but didn’t provide money for it. Our petition asks for the Transportation Trust Fund to be funded.

Please help support state funding for public transit by signing the Transit Citizens Advisory Board (TCAB) petition. Please share this petition with others who want Alabama to have strong public transit.

Partner Organizations

TCAB works with many other organisations, including Alabama Arise, Greater Birmingham Ministries, Community Affairs Committee, Youth Serve, Neighbourhood Associations, and many more.
