Shaw Secures Second Consecutive Executive Leader of the Year Award

Charlotte Shaw, Director and CEO of the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA), has once again clinched the Executive Leader of the Year award at the annual Minority Business Awards. Shaw's remarkable achievement marks her second consecutive win, underscoring her enduring impact and exceptional leadership in the Birmingham business community. 


In a city known for its vibrant entrepreneurial spirit, Shaw has consistently distinguished herself as a trailblazer, setting new standards of excellence and innovation in transit leadership. Her visionary strategies and unwavering commitment to inclusivity have not only elevated BJCTA to unprecedented heights but have also inspired countless aspiring leaders across Birmingham. 


Nominated by her peers and lauded by industry experts, Shaw's back-to-back wins highlight her sustained commitment to excellence and her unwavering dedication to serving the needs of the community. Her ability to navigate complex challenges with grace and resilience, and dedication to driving positive change have solidified her position as a true leader. 


The Minority Business Awards ceremony, now in its 18th year, serves as a platform to celebrate the diverse talents and achievements of Birmingham's minority business leaders. This year’s event was held at The Club on May 16, 2024.

BJCTA Hires Amanda Hare as Marketing & Communications Manager  

Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) hired Amanda Hare to serve as the agency’s Marketing & Communications Manager, effective April 29, 2024. In this role, she will be responsible for The Authority’s marketing, advertising, communications, and enhancing community engagement.


“Amanda brings an impressive background in marketing and public relations, insights and skills that are invaluable assets that will undoubtedly elevate our work to new heights.,” Charlotte Shaw, BJCTA's Chief Executive Officer, stated. “She will be a welcomed addition to a great team, and I look forward to the amazing expertise she will bring to the agency.”


Hare most recently served as Director of Marketing & Public Relations for Vulcan Park Foundation, the non-profit organization entrusted by the City of Birmingham to oversee Vulcan Park & Museum, where she led the ongoing enhancement of the Vulcan brand. She has worked for over 10 years in marketing, including industries such as tourism, non-profit, and higher education. Hare has also managed her own public relations agency, AmandatoryPR, for over 7 years. Hare has led several revenue-generating campaigns, including creating and implementing Vulcan Park Foundation’s ‘Stand with Vulcan’ license plate and launching Vulcan’s online gift shop.


“I am excited to join the BJCTA team,” shared Amanda Hare, BJCTA Marketing & Communications Manager. “I look forward to working with the entire team to increase our ridership as we expand transit. Expanding public transit isn't just about moving people and shifting mindsets. It's our opportunity to redefine our brand's perception from a mere transportation service to a catalyst for community connection and sustainable living."


Hare earned a master’s degree in strategic communication from Troy University and a baccalaureate degree from The University of Southern Mississippi. She serves on various professional boards and committees, including the board of directors for the Central Alabama Hospitality Attractions and Business Association (CAHABA). She is also a Birmingham Chapter of Executive Women International (EWI) member.
