BJCTA/MAX Transit Expands Mobility with Launch of MAX On-Demand Service in Irondale Beginning July 1
New microtransit service will provide flexible, app-based transportation connecting riders to work, transit and everyday destinations.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala– Beginning July 1, residents, employees and visitors in Irondale will have a new way to move.
MAX Transit is proud to announce the official launch of MAX On-Demand in Irondale — an innovative, app-based microtransit service designed to make transportation more flexible, convenient and accessible for the community.
Operating Monday through Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., the new service will provide point-to-point transportation within the Irondale service zone while connecting riders to major employment centers, regional transit routes and key community destinations.
Customers will be able to book rides directly through the MAX Connect mobile app, creating a seamless experience that puts mobility in the palm of their hands.
“Public transportation continues to evolve, and MAX On-Demand represents the next step in creating more flexible, customer-centered mobility solutions for our region,” said Charlotte Shaw, CEO of MAX Transit. “This service gives people more options to access jobs, essential services, transit connections and the places that matter most in their daily lives.”
The Irondale MAX On-Demand zone will provide connections to destinations including:
• Woodlawn Transit Center
• Amazon Fulfillment Center
• Walmart Supercenter
• Ruffner Mountain
• Downtown Irondale
• FedEx Ground and more
Unlike traditional fixed-route service, MAX On-Demand allows customers to request rides when they need them and travel within the designated zone, reducing transportation barriers and improving first-mile/last-mile connectivity.
The launch reflects a collaborative effort between MAX Transit, the City of Irondale and The Community Foundation to expand access and support continued growth throughout the region.
In advance of launch, MAX Transit will conduct community outreach, rider education opportunities and demonstrations to help customers become familiar with downloading the app and booking rides.
Customers are encouraged to download the MAX Connect app ahead of launch and stay connected through MAX Transit social media channels for service updates, rider information and launch activities.
