Announcements, News Releases

An audit completed earlier this year proved an unqualified opinion, despite allegations made against BJCTA, which means that an independent auditor’s judgment confirmed the organization’s financial statements were fairly and appropriately presented. The city of Vestavia Hills did receive an incorrect invoice which was provided by a former employee. A new and corrected invoice has since been submitted to the city manager. BJCTA is committed to providing accurate billing to all of our partnering cities.

MAX Transit Announces Changes to Several Routes in November

(BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA) On Wednesday, October 3, 2018, The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) announced that changes would be made to several of its routes. The most impacted routes include the #3 Jefferson- Wenonah, #39 Homewood, #31 Hoover, and #42 Brookwood. “The reality is that the City of Homewood requested these route changes, and it is the BJCTA’s obligation to meet their request. We expect that these changes will be an inconvenience to our riders and sympathize with them,” said Interim Executive Director, Christopher Ruffin, Sr.

One of the most drastic changes is the elimination of route #39 Homewood. Cutting this route means there will no longer be bus service to the Walmart located on Lakeshore Drive. In addition to this, there will be less frequent trips made to Downtown Homewood, Brookwood Mall and Brookwood Hospital. These changes are set to take effect on Monday, November 5, 2018.

The BJCTA will host a series of public information meetings with the intent to discuss the changes in detail. The meeting information is listed below.

Tuesday, October 9th – 8:00 A.M.
Homewood City Hall
2850 19th Street South
Homewood, AL 35209

Tuesday, October 9th– 5:30 P.M.
MAX Transit Administrative Offices
1801 Morris Avenue
Birmingham, AL 35203

Thursday, October 11th– 4:30 P.M.
Mountain Brook Chamber of Commerce (Fire Training Room)
101 Hoyt Lane,
Mountain Brook, AL 35213
*Located on the north side of City Hall*

Tuesday, October 16th– 2:00 P.M.
MAX Transit Administrative Offices
1801 Morris Avenue
Birmingham, AL 35203

The public is encouraged to attend these meetings to gain insight and clarity on the upcoming route changes. For a complete listing of affected routes and changes visit www.maxtransit.org.

The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) Announces

Notification of Route Changes

Effective Monday, December 3, 2018

Birmingham, AL – Previously announced route changes which were to take place on November 5, 2018 have been postponed until December 3, 2018.  The date change was implemented in order to ensure passenger safety by allowing MAX operators time to be fully trained on the new routes.  The changes were designed to improve frequency of trips in certain routes and reduce the time a rider is waiting on their bus.

“By delaying the route change for 30 days, we are also giving our riders an opportunity to completely understand the changes and determine how they can incorporate them into their transportation planning,” said Christopher Ruffin, interim executive director of BJCTA.  “We are undertaking additional avenues of communication with our passengers to ensure they are informed in multiple channels.”

Route changes will include:

  • Route #3 – Jefferson and Route #28 – South Eastlake: No longer Cross-Town
  • Route #3 – Jefferson: Extended to serve a portion of the west Lakeshore area
  • Route #28 – South Eastlake: Slight route change
  • Route #39 – Homewood: ELIMINATED
  • Route #42 – Brookwood and Route #31 – Hoover: Consolidated Route. Trips to Homewood, Brookwood Hospital and Brookwood Mall reduced to seven (7) on weekdays and five (5) on Saturdays
  • Route #99 – Mountain Brook: Spartan Shuttle three month pilot
