About TCAB

The Transit Citizens Advisory Board (TCAB) is a representative body for citizens of the South Central Jefferson County Region who serves in an advisory capacity to the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA). TCAB was formed in 2013. It's membership shall consist of no more than sixteen representatives from the Birmingham community. TCAB is a voluntary committee of riders, former transit employees and community advocates that work in partnership with the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority. TCAB reviews transit system planning, operations and programs from the community perspective and make recommendations to the BJCTA.

CURRENT PROJECTS

LETS TALK

Let’s Talk is an effort to ensure the voices of the riders are heard. Once a month TCAB members spend a few hours at Central Station to listen to rider’s concerns and share pertinent information. The program is designed to help riders address their issues regarding the operation of BJCTA. An initiative called Fix It arose from the Let’s Talk program where riders share their top concerns with the system and we report them to Max in order to get them addressed.

MAJOR INITIATIVES

TCAB has been doing voter registration for a few years and have registered hundreds of riders. These sign-ups are held at Central Station in downtown Birmingham.

TCAB has also started a statewide petition to secure state funding for public transportation in Alabama. Alabama is one of only five states that provides no state funding for public transportation. In 2018, the Alabama state legislature established the Public Transportation Trust Fund, but failed to dedicate a funding source. TCAB’s petition calls for the Transportation Trust to be funded.

Please help support state funding for public transit by signing the Transit Citizens Advisory Board (TCAB) petition. Please share this petition with others who want Alabama to have a robust public transit system.

PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS

TCAB works with numerous other organizations, including, but not limited to: Alabama Arise, Greater Birmingham Ministries, Community Affairs Committee, Youth Serve, Neighborhood Associations and many more.
