Vehicle Maintenance Planner
JOB SUMMARY
The Vehicle Maintenance Planner plays a vital role in the Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) Maintenance Department. In this position, you will be responsible for efficiently planning and scheduling maintenance activities to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our transit vehicles.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Maintenance Scheduling: Develop and maintain maintenance schedules for transit vehicles, including routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs.
- Work Order Creation: Generate work orders for maintenance and repair tasks, prioritizing them based on vehicle condition and operational needs.
- Resource Allocation: Assign tasks to maintenance technicians, considering their skills, availability, and the urgency of the repairs.
- Parts and Inventory Management: Coordinate with the parts department to ensure timely availability of required components for maintenance tasks.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, parts usage, and maintenance logs.
- Data Analysis: Analyze maintenance data to identify trends and opportunities for process improvements.
- Communication: Collaborate with the Maintenance Manager, technicians, and other departments to ensure a smooth and efficient maintenance process.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and standards.
- All other duties and responsibilities assigned.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience in maintenance planning and scheduling, preferably in a transit or automotive environment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Familiarity with transit vehicle maintenance procedures and regulations.

- Proficiency in using computer systems and maintenance software.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to work in an office environment.
- Occasional visits to maintenance facilities to assess scheduling needs.
- Ability to stand, stoop, bend, and lift light objects as necessary.
