Assistant Manager of Maintenance Department
JOB SUMMARY
The Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) is in search of a dedicated and experienced Assistant Maintenance Manager to enhance our team. As Assistant Maintenance Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our transit vehicles and facilities. Working closely with the Maintenance Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing maintenance operations, managing a team of skilled technicians, and ensuring our vehicles are maintained to the highest standards of safety and performance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Supervision: Assist in the supervision and management of a team of maintenance technicians, including training, scheduling, and performance evaluations
- Vehicle Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and repair of transit vehicles, ensuring they are safe, reliable, and compliant with all regulations.
- Inventory Control: Manage the inventory of spare parts and supplies, ensuring that the necessary components are readily available to minimize downtime.
- Quality Control: Implement quality control procedures to maintain the highest standards of maintenance and repair work.
- Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, including safety inspections, equipment testing, and safety training for maintenance staff.
- Budget Management: Assist in managing the maintenance budget, monitoring expenses, and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair activities, including work orders, parts replacements, and maintenance logs.
- Vendor Relations: Coordinate with vendors and suppliers to ensure timely delivery of parts and services.
- Emergency Response: Be available for emergency call-outs and assist in emergency response situations as needed.
- Training and Development: Identify training needs for maintenance staff and assist in the development and implementation of training programs.
- Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency enhancements in maintenance operations.
- All other duties and responsible assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of prior experience in vehicle maintenance and repair, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
- Profound knowledge of transit vehicle maintenance procedures and industry regulations.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills, with a proven ability to lead and motivate a team effectively.
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate effective collaboration.
- Proficiency in computer systems and maintenance management software.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Availability for variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Adaptability to diverse weather conditions.
REQUIREMENTS:
The required driver's license for this position is a standard non-CDL license. Must have a good driving record with no more than one (1) moving violation within the last twelve (12) months and have no felony convictions on criminal records.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATION.
Current and valid driver’s license, including DOT medical card. No more than one (1) moving violation within last 36 months.
EXPERIENCE:
At least five (5) years’ experience of driving a non-commercial/ commercial vehicle with restrictions.
