Join BJCTA for TOD Industry Day, exploring transit-oriented development

BJCTA’s TOD Industry Day will spotlight development opportunities surrounding BJCTA’s existing infrastructure and available parcels along the BRT corridor. The goal is to engage developers, investment partners, planners, and community stakeholders in meaningful dialogue about building walkable, accessible, and vibrant communities that are seamlessly connected by transit. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. in the Intermodal Boardroom at 1801 Morris Avenue.

Highlights of the day will include speakers such as Debbie Frank from WeGo Transit Nashville, Cornell Wesley from Growth in Birmingham, BJCTA CEO Charlotte Shaw, Mashonda Taylor from Woodlawn United and David Fleming from REV Birmingham.

Participating organizations will share opportunities in Woodlawn, Downtown Birmingham, and the Western area of Birmingham and Jefferson County via site tours. Identifying these locations will help attract targeted interest from those looking to invest in communities already primed for growth and redevelopment.

This year’s event will highlight community investments made by BJCTA, Woodlawn United, and REV Birmingham, with a focus on how transit-oriented development can drive new housing, economic growth, enhance the rider experience, and strengthen first/last mile connectivity. While the East BRT segment will be a key focus, we will also explore opportunities along the broader BRT alignment and adjacent corridors.

We aim to cultivate discussions around mixed-use development, affordable housing, mobility hubs, pedestrian-friendly infrastructure, and innovative public-private partnerships. Attendees can expect site overviews,
potential partnership pathway opportunities, community impact goals, and a shared vision for how transit investments can catalyze equitable and sustainable development across Birmingham.
