MAX Talks

Some Secrets Should Not Be Secrets

In 2013, MAX Transit began updating and upgrading their fleet with Compressed Natural Gas fueled buses. This plan includes adding three new CNG fueled buses as buses need to be replaced in the fleet. Most recently, MAX Transit has added a fleet of 6 new CNG buses used for our Magic City Connector Route. These buses run along 20th street from the Uptown District to Birmingham’s Southside. Riders also have the option to connect to other routes that lead to many attractions like the McWane Science Center, the Birmingham Zoo, Vulcan Park, Regions Field, the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex and the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute. The Magic City Connector runs every 10 minutes from 10 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and every 20 minutes on Saturday.

MAX Transit is the only place in the Birmingham Metropolitan area where drivers can get CNG. What is CNG and why is it so important? CNG is an alternative to gasoline that’s created through the process of compressing natural gas to less than 1% of its volume at standard atmospheric pressure. CNG is odorless, colorless and tasteless. One of the major advantages to using CNG is that is produced domestically and it is drawn from natural gas wells or in conjunction with crude oil production. With a rise in gas prices, the United States interest in CNG is rising. MAX Transit is proud to provide a clean and affordable alternative to gasoline! Captain MAX is taking saving the environment to the MAX!
