Paratransit
At BJCTA / MAX Transit, we’re dedicated to offering safe and dependable transportation for everyone, including those with disabilities. Our Paratransit service is a shared-ride, door-to-door option for getting around if you can’t use our fixed route buses. A valid Paratransit ID card is required to ride.
Types of Paratransit Services
MAX Paratransit offers the following two services.
Demand Service
A reservation for service on a future date up to two weeks in advance.Subscription ServiceA standing reservation for customers who normally make the same trip several times a week or travel on a regular schedule.
- Limited to riders traveling to the same destination at the same time, at least three times a week for a minimum of ninety days; however, MAX is currently not accepting new subscriptions.
- The Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority reserves the right to restrict Subscription Service to maintain a maximum level of 50%, as required by the ADA, when there is no excess demand capacity available.
- Subscription Service will be terminated if cancelled 30% or more times within a 30-day period or there is a consistent pattern of cancellations of any part of a subscription.
Service Hours
Paratransit operates Monday – Saturday during the same service hours as our Fixed Route in the desired area. For example, if Route 45 starts operating at 5 a.m., Paratransit also starts operating at 5 a.m. in the same area that Route 45 runs. Fixed Route hours vary between 4 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. See Fixed Route schedule for specific hours of operation.
