Birmingham Jefferson County Transit Authority Benefit Information

We are excited to present our new comprehensive benefit plan to support and enhance the well-being of BJCTA employees. Our plan offers a wide range of benefits tailored to help ensure employees thrive both professionally and personally and begins their first day on the job.

Benefit Packages
Administrative Employees
Individuals working for the company who are non-union employees. 

Health, Dental, Vision, and More

MAX Transit offers an affordable healthcare benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance. In addition, the company provides paid short and long-term disability insurance. See BJCTA benefits brochure for more information.

Paid Time Off

Vacation Days
  • 1 to 4 years – 10 days
  • 5 to 9 years – 15 days
  • 10 or more years – 20 days

Personal Days
Employees receive 6 personal days per year to use at their discretion.

Holidays
 BJCTA provides paid time off during certain holidays for employees to enjoy time with family and friends.

Pension Plan

The BJCTA is proud to offer a pension plan for employees including a 3% maximum employee and 5% employer contribution. The plan is set up as a cliffhanger program. Employees leaving within the second year receive 20%; the third year, 30%; the fourth year, 40%; and will be fully vested after the fifth year.

Retirement Plan

In addition to the Pension Plan, employees can also contribute to a 457(b) Plan.

Employee Assistance Program

Employees have access to counseling, personal development, and training benefits, along with self-help resources and more at no additional cost through the Employee Assistance Program.
Contract/Union Employees
Contract/Union employees governed primarily by a collective bargaining agreement, which may be subject to renegotiation.

Pension Plan

The BJCTA is proud to offer a pension plan for union/contract employees including an 8% maximum employee and 25% employer contribution. Employees are fully vested at 10 years. If an employee leaves before the vested period, they will receive their employee contribution only.
