BJCTA Announces Appointment of New Board of Directors Officers

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) is pleased to announce the appointment of new officers to its Board of Directors, marking a continued commitment to strong governance, strategic leadership, and enhanced public transit service across Jefferson County.

The newly appointed board members represent the Cities of Birmingham, Homewood, and Hoover and bring diverse expertise in public service, policy, and community leadership.

The newly appointed officers include:

• Chair: Willie S. Davis III, Appointed by the City of Birmingham
• Vice Chair: Patricia Todd, Appointed by the City of Birmingham
• Secretary: Michelle Inman, Appointed by the City of Birmingham

These leadership roles are instrumental in guiding the Board’s oversight of BJCTA’s operations, policies, and long-term vision, ensuring that the Authority continues to deliver safe, reliable, and innovative transportation solutions for the community.

With more than 26 years of industry experience, Deputy Walker brings exceptional expertise in people operations, grant management, compliance, strategic planning, and financial oversight to her role at BJCTA. Her visionary approach and dedication have been instrumental in advancing the agency’s mission of connecting people to places.

Prior to her current position, Deputy Walker served as Chief of Staff, where she cultivated a culture of accountability and excellence throughout the organization.

Deputy Walker will be formally recognized at the 2025 BBJ Women’s Summit, scheduled for Friday, September 26 at 8 a.m. in the East Ballroom of the BJCC.

The meeting will focus on changes upcoming in May to routes 7, 48, 5, 14, 6 and the Magic City Connector:

● Routes 5 (Ensley Wylam) and 14 (Idlewild-Palisades) will run together.
● The end of the line for Route 6( Pratt Ensley) will now be at Avenue F and 19th Street.
● Route 14 will be rerouted out of the Idlewild Circle neighbourhood.
● Route 6 and 40 (Fairmont) will also run together.
● The Magic City Connector will be rerouted to Central Station.
● Time points will change on Route 25 (Centerpoint).
● Routes 7 (Fairfield) and 48 (South Powderly) will be converted to MAX On-Demand’s microtransit service.

MAX’s Planning team will be on-hand to answer any questions or address concerns during the community meeting.Can’t make it?

MAX’s Customer Experience team will also be attending the Powderly neighborhood association meeting Monday, April 14.

More community meetings will be scheduled in the future before the changes are implemented on May 19.

● Successfully cross-trained the entire Customer Care team.
● Enhanced our Quality Assurance program to ensure top-notch customer service.
● Updated our training program and planned new training initiatives for this year.
● Partnered with Ecolane to improve operational efficiency.
● Increased community engagement through various initiatives such as Community Meetings and Max Foundation events.
● Boosted customer engagement at Transit Centers and Central Station.

These accomplishments, along with receiving the Outstanding Job Performance (Growth) award in 2024, highlight Tevarius’s exceptional contributions to BJCTA. In his new role, Tevarius will continue to lead our customer experience initiatives, focusing on innovative strategies to enhance our service quality and customer satisfaction. We are confident that his leadership will continue to drive our organization towards even greater success in customer experience.
