Fixed Route
The Birmingham-Jefferson County Transit Authority (BJCTA) is the leading public transportation provider in the City of Birmingham, Alabama. The agency was established in 1972 to take over transit operations from private industry. Currently, utilizing 70 fixed route buses and 21 routes, BJCTA services more than 200 square miles with a demand population base of nearly 400,000. The service area includes Birmingham, Bessemer, Center Point, Homewood, Hoover, Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills, Tarrant, Midfield, and City of Fairfield. BJCTA carries out its commitment to air quality and pollution control by operating only CNG buses.
